Faces of Homelessness

Homeless comes in many faces…

After being diagnosed with kidney cancer Verna was faced with homelessness. It became too much to keep up with the job she loved as a hairdresser. “It was hard. I am a college graduate and I never thought I would have to deal with the things that I am.”
Verna began coming to The Lord’s Table for a hot meal and the support everyone offers. “Catherine and the volunteers became like family. I love coming for the food, the people, and the stories. We are stronger together.”
Catherine, the coordinator for The Lord’s Table, greets everyone by name and with a warm smile. “I know how hard it is for everyone to survive, and now with the weather! I just want them to feel like they are coming home, and a warm nutritious meal helps.”

“So many times you feel helpless on what to do to help others, volunteering and donating to SJFC makes me feel less helpless and that I am making a difference in someone else’s life.”~ Cindy

“You are wonderful. My son is in town to visit me and you made it possible for me to cook him a meal. It made me feel good to be able to do that for him. It made him feel like old times.” ~ Brenda (homeless)
